Château d'Arsac
One of the oldest castles of the Medoc region
It is quite possible to combine tradition with modernity and to be a Bordeaux château owner-wine trader and a contemporary art lover. For proof of this, just go to Château d'Arsac, set a few miles from La Winery.
Bought by Philippe Raoux in 1986 when it was in ruins, this winemaking estate has been restored to its rightful place among the elite after a bold renovation plan. It now has 112 hectares (54 of which are in the Margaux AOC).
Château d'Arsac also is home to a collection of works of art created by some of the greatest contempory artists - Niki de Saint-Phalle, Claude Viallat, Bernard Pagès, Vincent Monthier, Jean-Pierre Raynaud, Bernar Venet…) - propelling the château into the spotlight of modernity. When he also set up La Winery, where art and wine merge together, Philippe Raoux was merely extending his philosophy.
